Growing up, my family grunted through 46 days of Lent... not the 40 days that is practiced by the Church every year. We didn't know any better and nobody ever actually counted out the days on the calendar from Ash Wednesday until Easter. Plus, we didn't know we weren't suppose to "grunt" either.
Little did we know that every Sunday is a "mini-Easter"! Sundays are not included in the 40 days of Lent. Years ago, I told both my mom and dad this little revelation. I even whipped out the calendar and counted out every single day starting from Ash Wednesday (day #1) to Holy Saturday, the 46th day! But if you exclude Sundays, like the rest of the Church does all over the world... it's 40 days!
Oh, how many Lents went by growing up when chocolate could've been eaten on Sundays!!! Oh well... the past is the past.
Now here's the kicker... my dad, of course, embraced it for two reasons... because it's obviously the truth and because he certainly enjoys his "mini-Easters" now. My mom, on the other hand, will not accept it. She still grunts through 46 days of Lent (Sundays and all). I asked her why. She replied, "I do it my way."
Okey dokey! but just don't take away my "mini-Easters!"
How can there be too many children? That is like saying there are too many flowers. Mother Teresa

Whatchu talkin' bout, Willis? I always loved Lent..... even Mom's way, plugging along for the 46. :) I love Easter any way you celebrate it..... and then on Easter Sunday morning? It's truly magical, just like Christmas.
ahahaha! I don't know about you, but I couldn't make it through a straight 46 days without sneakin' in an occasional spoon-full of Nestle's Quick! ;-)
Or Tang!
